Meet LYDIA
Born and raised in Weslaco, Texas, Lydia Elizondo is a proud daughter of the Rio Grande Valley — one of six children in a loving family that taught her faith, hard work, and service. She and her husband, Bill, have been married 17 years, and she has one son, Michael Edward.
A graduate of Weslaco High School and UTPA, Lydia earned her degree in just three and a half years and went on to become a certified Texas teacher in secondary English. After teaching in Weslaco and Mission, she answered a new calling — the law. Lydia earned her law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law, passed the Bar before graduating, and began her career at the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office.
After serving in the private sector and running her own firm, Lydia spent the last seven years focusing on those most in need through the Indigent Defense Program, ensuring that everyone — not just the privileged — has access to justice. Her peers elected her Director of District 12 on the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors, where she represented attorneys across 17 South Texas counties. She also served on the Hidalgo County Bar Association Board, and she currently serves on the State Bar Women in the Profession Committee and the local ethics and grievance committee.
Active in her church and community, Lydia serves on the St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish Council and has served on the Food Bank of the RGV’s Empty Bowls Committee. She also participated in Leadership McAllen, and she helps local animal rescues in their efforts to help the local animal population.
Now, as a candidate for Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney, Lydia is ready to take on corruption and restore faith in our justice system — standing firm on her lifelong belief in Justice for All.
